(SAD), video art, 2020

In this video I made the acronym for ‘sad’ by using various minor notes on violin, guitar and bass. Using a perfect minor 5ths I translated the number 5 into a (S), a A minor on guitar for (A) and D minor on bass for (D). Visually I conveyed the idea of depression by using a collage of movie clips of anguish while overall making the quality of video decrease in light from note to note. The figure is a entity of depression that becomes fully engaged when covered in the shroud that represents when depression takes over.

Lola’s Depot Date, 2020

This video is a combination of 2D and 3D elements to create a narrative of my first date with my now husband. The song was written to coincide with the emotions I was going through in 2015. With entropy in mind, I wanted to create something that will eventually disappear as if it was never there.

HOW DO YOU FEEL WHEN YOU FEEL ALONE

The pandemic of 2020 has pushed many of us into a state of isolation and loneliness. Many factors represent those feelings of solitude in everyday routines and rituals. After several months of these patterns I noticed one thing missing, friends. I painted my friends/relatives to fill that void. The barren landscape represents the vast feeling of loneliness in a visual representation. I performed routines or activities that I would normally do with each painting as if that person was really there. Creating a feel of the ‘imaginary friend’ through a painting thus showing the loneliness we all experienced throughout 2020. I chose several friends from my hometown of Houston to paint portraits of in colors that were either their favorite or what I felt visually represented them. I requested a selfie from each person and painted that into their viewable portrait. I decided on a site specific location of Terlingua, Texas and Monahans, Texas for the performance because of the beautiful but lonely desert landscape. With the paintings from this project I plan on giving them to my friends and taking their picture with the portrait for another series of photographs. My hope is to reinstate those relationships when reunited with those friends and to show how fleeting our time and friendships can be.

Stop The World and Melt, 2020

Using silicone molds that I made from sculpting plasticine I created ice molds of myself (Red) and my partner (Blue). I slowed down “I’ll Melt With You” and add reverb and I placed it over a time-lapse of the ice molds melting in the sun.

Aries in Love, 2021, claymation

The Poem is a type of sonate dedicated to my partner. It shows the crazy, over the top love that is experienced in relationships. I show how aggressive it can be but then show how distracted it can be as well as the relationship grows.
