Meet Parker
musician - artist - teacher - business owner
Parker (Ashley) Hernandez is a multidisciplinary artist based in Houston, Texas. Originally from South Houston, she got her start in the local music scene, being in bands or designing flyers for bands and venues across the state. Her creative voice began to expand during her time at the University of Texas–Permian Basin in Odessa, where she explored lithography, painting, photography, and video.
Parker’s work is deeply rooted in storytelling and her love of bold, expressive color. She draws inspiration from artists such as Emil Bisttram, Hilma af Klint, and Gabriella Ruiz. Whether manipulating color in her photography or blending theatrical and musical elements in stop-motion animation, Parker brings a vibrant, narrative-driven approach to everything she creates.
In December 2020, she moved back to Houston and graduated the following spring with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Since the fall of 2021, she has been teaching art at YES Prep Fifth Ward. Parker is passionate about arts education and is especially dedicated to supporting and mentoring youth through creative expression.
In the summer of 2022, Parker and her partner launched a pop-up record store, which evolved into a permanent storefront in Houston’s East End: Gneiss Sounds, opened in June 2023. A month later, they co-founded Rite Field Records, an independent record label that is musician-led.
Since then, RFR has steadily built a roster of talent:
November 2023 – Shallowater (not current)
March 2024 – Some Fear (OKC)
June 2024 – Shunkan (LA)
January 2025 – Bagdad (Poland)
May 2025 – My Point of You (Denton, TX) and Trembler (Houston, TX)
Parker continues to explore new creative directions while staying grounded in community, collaboration, and her passion for storytelling through art and sound.
